CASS Team Building Day 27th November 2015

South Wales based scaffolding company, CASS Supplies, holds a highly productive and very well received team building day in West Wales

On Friday 27th November the CASS workforce attended a team-building event in West Wales at the Morfa Bay Adventure Centre. 2015 has been a very busy year for CASS Supplies, the Barry based scaffolding and access solutions company, with many new team members joining the business. The CASS management team decided that they needed the opportunity to bring all the staff together to ensure they maximised the benefits of coherent teams. They also felt that this would provide the opportunity to identify good team players and potential future leaders.

The six teams of 10 people spent the morning session on a combination of team building exercises and physical challenges.

The team building exercises were designed to demonstrate how working together as a team; sharing ideas, can make task completion much more efficient and effective. With the help of 3 former Royal Navy physical training instructors the ice breakers and teamwork exercises were specifically designed to identify potential new leaders and to clearly demonstrate the benefits of team working.

At the same time the other 3 teams were experiencing the more physical challenges of team high rope climbing, zip wire and archery assisted by the professional staff from the Morfa Bay organisation. Again, these were designed to demonstrate that working together as a team on physical challenges can also increase work efficiency.

After a hearty lunch and a chance to warm up the 6 teams were shown around the mud run challenge. The heavy rain had swollen the streams, ponds and tracks into real quagmires. Despite this all the teams took up the challenge with a real vigour; willingly plunging into the freezing cold water in an attempt to secure victory for their team.

Ultimately it was the Green team, led by Andy Lloyd, that won the mud run challenge and were rewarded with specially embroidered CASS winners’ polo shirts. Andy said “It’s been a tough day with all these challenges and team work in the outdoors in the middle of winter.  I know all of us have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learnt a huge amount. Winning the mud run is great and I know that everyone who attended feels that they have benefited hugely from the day.”

CASS Supplies Director Mike Spray said “This is the first time we have run an event like this. We all feel that this has been an excellent investment and we will certainly be looking to repeat this next year. My management team and I firmly believe that this event has given us the chance to identify a number of potential future leaders for our business as well as the chance to clearly demonstrate the benefits coherent team working.  I believe a day like this will provide enormous benefits for our business.

I recommend an exercise like this for businesses where team working is key to their success. I would like to pass on our sincere thanks to the staff at Morfa Bay Adventure for their support and professional approach to the organisation of the day and to the 3 former Royal Navy PTIs for all their fantastic effort.”
